Hawaii Eats

As most of you know, we got married in Kona, Big Island Hawaii, November 11, 2011.
Then we went to Kauai for honeymoon afterwards.
Here are some restaurants we tried on our trip.

Tex Drive In

45-690 Pakalana St Hwy 19

We stopped here at the Tex Drive In on the way to our volcano tour in Hilo from Kona. This is a well know local spot and they known for their malasadas.  I had no idea what malasadas were but they said it's really good. Come to find out, they are sugar donuts stuffed with some flavors, ranging from guava, to passion fruit to Bavarian cream. They were just donuts but they really good, but perhaps I was just hungry.

Next stop, Kauai. We got a couple hours to kill before we have to head to the airport. We came across a shopping mall, so we decided to go in and walk around for a bit. It was around lunchtime, and I was hungry. I did a quick search on Yelp and it says there's a hot dog shop in the strip mall that has 300+ good reviews and they were open, so we decided to give it a try.

Sure it's a hot dog shop, its small, only got 2 tables. But it's nicely decorated and their menu is on a surf board, very Hawaiian.  You pick your hot dog (Polish Sausage or Veggie), then select the spice level (mild, spicy, hot, hot-hot), then lastly, select your topping (Mango Relish, Coconut Relish, Pineapple Relish, Banana Relish, Papaya Relish and Star Fruit Relish) OR you can choose the Traditonal Toppings (Ketchup, Mustard, Sweet Pickle Relish, Hawaiian Mustard, Lillkoi or Guava).

The most popular topping, is Pineapple Relish
Garlic Lemon Sauce
Guava Mustard
or
Mango Relish
Spicy Jalapeno Sauce
Lilikoi Mustard

Puka Dog

2360 Kiahuna Plantation Dr
Koloa, HI 96756

A cup of their fresh squeezed lemonade, hubby claims it's the best lemonade he's ever had!
Hawaii is composed of many cultures, and Japanese is one of them. In Kauai, I wanted to try this Saimin place. It was a hole-in-the-wall but completely packed. No decorations. And all they served was just pretty much saimin.
